Whether you've moved here recently or lived here you're whole life, Mayor Mick Cornett's new movie chronicling the last 50 years in Oklahoma City will help you understand and appreciate how far this city has come since 1970.

I've lived here in the metro since 1961, and I've been a news reporter here for the last 30 years, but "The Boom, the Bust and the Bomb" reminded me about so many struggles, failures, and obstacles the leaders and people of this city had to overcome to make it a place where people would enjoy living, and heaven forbid visiting.

The movie is told in a Ken Burns documentary style, with the mayor, a long-time sportscaster narrating.

It includes dozens of revealing interviews with notable Oklahomans about arrogant mistakes made during the oil boom of the 70's, and OKC's dismal almost hopeless decline in the 80's.

I've covered MAPS from the beginning, but it is fascinating hearing the politics that went on behind closed doors, and then the tragedy of the bombing.

The movie is woven together in a compelling fashion that belies its two and a half hour run time, and it left me teary-eyed with civic pride as the credits rolled.

Great job to Mayor Cornett and all who contributed to it.

It's showing at the Bricktown Harkins or you can stream it online for 10 bucks.

I'm Kelly Ogle and that's My 2 Cents.
