Copper thieves target businesses in the metro, ripping off victims to the tune of about $70,000.

The scheme began in February.

Police may be looking for a group of thieves. The businesses that were hit don't believe it was someone acting alone.

“Last night, it was 78 degrees in our office, and we had about 40 people here, so it was a very frustrating event,” said local Sr. VP of Primerica, Kevin Little.

Kevin walked into a hot office Tuesday morning.

“Absolutely it's frustrating, especially when you have people coming in and out all the time,” said Little. “They look at us wondering why it's so hot and miserable.”

Moore police said thieves made off with more than $35,000 worth of copper and AC equipment at Kevin's office complex alone.

Dozens of units behind Green Tree Plaza, right off I-35 in Moore were stripped.

“It goes from them trying to get quick money, to us having to suffer for their consequences of laziness. I just don't like it,” said Little.

But the thieves didn't stop there.

Police said they made their way on to the roof of Gordmans Department store off Telephone Road and managed to get away with about $25,000 in AC parts and Copper.

A couple of days later, the same thing happened at Platt College off N. Eastern Avenue. There, around $10,000 of damage done.

“We've heard of it, never had it happen,” said Little. “It's hard to fathom why people would want to do that, but you know, I guess it is what it is,” said Little.

Moore Police are actively looking for suspects in the thefts.

Anyone with information is urged to give them a call, or Crime Stoppers of Moore at 405-793-5160. You can also give suspect information at www.moorecrimetips.com
