Damage Assessment In Moore Shows 347 Homes Impacted By March Tornadoes

<p>The City of Moore along with other officials have put the damage and destruction from the March 25 tornadoes into numbers.</p>

The City of Moore along with other officials have put the damage and destruction from the March 25 tornadoes into numbers.

City officials said the first assessment conducted by FEMA and other agencies showed dozens of homes and businesses were impacted within the city limits of Moore.

According to the assessment:

  • 33 homes were destroyed
  • 27 homes had major damage
  • 47 homes had minor damage
  • 347 homes were affected

Physical damage to businesses, schools and churches in Moore were also included in the assessment.

Businesses:

  • Affected: Sun Tree Duplexes, Jamestown Square Apartments, Switzer's Locker Room and Storage
  • Major Damage: 7-Eleven on S.W. 4th Street and Wilson
  • Destroyed: Kids USA, KOMA

Churches:

  • Affected: Southgate Baptist Church, Revival for Christ, Moore Church of the Nazarene

Schools:

  • Major Damage: Southgate Elementary
  • Affected: Highland West Junior High, Apple Creek Elementary, Timber Creek Elementary (under construction at the time of the storm)

Officials said the Moore schools within the Oklahoma City limits would be included in a separate damage assessment.
