Baylor Runs Over Oklahoma Women

WACO, Texas -

Redshirt sophomore Peyton Little and freshman Gabbi Ortiz combined to score 38 of the Sooners' 66 points, but slow first half shooting put the Sooners in a hole they could not dig out of. Oklahoma fell to Baylor 89-66 Wednesday night, marking just the third conference loss of the year for the Sooners.

For Baylor, Nina Davis scored 31 points, Alexis Prince added 16 points and a career-high 11 rebounds and No. 3 Baylor stretched its winning streak to 22 games with a 89-66 victory over Oklahoma on Wednesday night.

The Lady Bears (23-1, 12-0) matched defending national champion UConn for the longest current winning streak with a dominating performance over the Big 12's second-place team.

Davis scored 12 points with two three-point plays in a 20-0 run early in the game and Baylor led throughout. The sophomore post player, the conference's top scorer at 21 points a game coming in, had 20 by halftime to match the Sooners total at that point.

Oklahoma (15-8, 9-3) dropped three games behind the Lady Bears in the Big 12 standings with six league games remaining.

Little, a sophomore transfer from Texas A&M, had 22 points with five 3-pointers to lead the Sooners. Ortiz added 16 points with a quick spurt of 3s after halftime.

Davis finished 12-of-15 shooting. Imani Wright had 11 points and Sune Agbuke 11. Niya Johnson, the nation's assist leader already, had a career-high 17 assists and no turnovers in 30 minutes.

Davis was still outscoring Oklahoma on her own until Sharane Campbell-Olds's layup in the final minute cut the Sooners' halftime gap to 42-20. The Sooners shot just 21 percent from the field in the first half.

Ortiz had a layup with 17:21 left in the first half that got the Sooners to 7-5. They then went scoreless for more than 6 1/2 minutes while Baylor went on its big run.

By the first media timeout 93 seconds later, Baylor's lead was already up to 14-5 when Johnson passed the ball to Davis, who was hit while making a layup. Davis added the free throw after the timeout, the first of her trio of three-point plays in the game.

Her second three-point play led into the second media timeout with 11:47 left in the half. Kristy Wallace penetrated into traffic in the lane, then passed ahead to Davis, who again scored while taking contact and added the free throw after the timeout.

The Sooners missed 11 shots in a row until a layup by Vionise Pierre-Louis with 10:56 left, when they were down 27-7.

During a span of 4:09 between the first two media timeouts after halftime, Ortiz made three 3-pointers and Little also hit from long range.

Down the stretch the Sooners kept pace with Baylor, scoring 46 points to Baylor's 47. The Sooners shot 52 percent from the field in the second frame, but the 42-20 first half deficit proved to much to over come.
