Chamberlain Leads Sooners In Hawaii

Lauren Chamberlain continued her ascent towards the home run crown and Paige Parker dominated in her pitching debut as No. 4/3 Oklahoma (2-0) routed St. Mary's (1-2), 17-0, in five innings Friday afternoon in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Lauren Chamberlain homered twice and tied her career high with seven RBI, going 2-3 with two walks and four runs scored. She now has 75 home runs in her career, putting her into a tie for eighth on the all-time home run list and 16 away from breaking the record.

Chamberlain hit a three-run homer and the fourth grand slam of her career. It was the 15th multi-homer game of her career.

In the circle, freshman Paige Parker made her pitching debut and shined. She allowed just one hit in five innings of work with eight strikeouts and just one walk. In addition, Parker was 2-4 at the plate with a two-run

single in the first inning.

Freshman Nicole Pendley went 3-4 with a double, an RBI, a walk and four runs scored.

Senior Shelby Pendley was 2-4 with three runs batted in of her own.

Oklahoma scored in every inning and posted it's highest run total since an 18-3, five-inning win over Liberty on March 7, 2014.

OSU Falls To Arizona

The Oklahoma State softball team was defeated in its season opener on Friday, as the Cowgirls fell to 12th-ranked Arizona, 12-2, at Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium in Tucson, Ariz.

OSU (0-1) was unable to contain the Wildcats' strong offensive attack, which produced 12 runs on 12 hits in addition to capitalizing on five OSU errors.

After threatening in the first, the Cowgirls took a 1-0 lead in the following frame thanks to a solo home run off the bat of freshman Mallory Collins. Making her first collegiate at-bat, Collins lined an inside pitch just over the left field wall, giving the Cowgirls an early advantage.

Arizona would respond in the bottom of the second, as Katiyana Mauga hit the first of the team's three home runs in the inning to tie the game at one. Later in the inning, Trish Parks' two-run homer and Kellie Fox's three-run shot put the Wildcats up, 6-1.

In the bottom of the third, three Cowgirl errors and five Arizona hits helped the Wildcats put on an additional six runs, making the score 12-1 in favor of the home side. Starter Brandi Needham ended the inning by forcing Mauga to fly out to second, but the sophomore's day would end after three frames.

After a scoreless fourth, Dre McKee opened the top of the fifth by reaching on an error from Arizona second baseman Mo Mercado. Cowgirl freshman Randee O'Donnell came on to pinch run for McKee, and would eventually score on Maddi Holdcomb's RBI groundout. However, Oklahoma State was unable to muster up a rally, and would fall victim to run-rule after five frames.

With Friday's defeat, the Cowgirls' eight-season-long streak of winning the season opener comes to end, placing the team at 0-1 for the first time since 2006.

Oklahoma State will look to even the series in tomorrow's matchup, set to begin to at 3 p.m. CT.
