My 2 Cents: Sony Cancels 'The Interview'

Posted: Updated:

Let me start by saying I doubt there's anyone who loves a good comedy more than I do. And I totally get irreverent humor. That said, there is a fine line between irreverent and irresponsible.

And by all accounts Sony pictures danced along that line with the production of the movie "The Interview", about two reporters tasked by the CIA to assassinate the very real and very unpredictable leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un.

In response, North Korean cyber hackers raided Sony's computer system releasing movies online, publishing emails, and when that didn't stop the planned release of the movie, they threatened to blow up movie theaters where the movie would be shown.

That did it. The theater chains started dropping the movie and then Sony canceled the Christmas Day release.

Folks this is cyber-terrorism, and Sony and the theater chains caved.

I know, it's just a movie, but our government needs to respond either through cyber repercussions or economic punishment, or other threats from hackers in other countries are sure to follow.

They might not like a book that's published and hackers threaten everyone who bought it online, you see where I'm going with this.

Don't think for a minute that others wishing us harm aren't firing up their computers tonight to experiment with cyber terrorism.
