TULSA, Oklahoma - News On 6 has learned the same developer of the Outlet Shoppes at Oklahoma City is expected to unveil plans this week for a similar outlet type mall in Tulsa.

Horizon Group Properties said the development will be an upscale deco-style mall in east Tulsa featuring 90 stores and will open in 2017.

They said they plan to build the mall on the northeast corner of 129th East Avenue and 5th Street.

This announcement follows on the heels of two similar outlet mall announcements in August and September.

In August, the Simon Property Group announced it wants to construct an outlet mall near Highway 75 and 61st Street South in west Tulsa.

Simon Property Group said it has purchased the land and is negotiating with potential tenants.

In September, the Cherokee Nation announced it will build an upscale outlet mall and an entertainment district next to the Hard Rock Casino in Catoosa.

The tribe said there will be 100 retail spaces, restaurants and even a gaming area.

We recently asked Chamber of Commerce director Mike Neal if Tulsa needs three outlet malls.

“That' a really good question and I don't think that anyone knows,” he said. “It proves we have a vibrant economy that it very strong. It has had its growth and is one that is anticipated to grow significantly in the years to come.”

Both Simon and Horizon are working to lure retail shops including big brand names like Nike and Banana Republic.

Tulsa city officials and Horizon Group will hold a news conference at city hall on Wednesday.
