OKLAHOMA CITY -

Over a pound of cocaine was discovered by a K9 officer with the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Department during a traffic stop on Interstate 40 in Oklahoma City over the weekend.

Late Saturday night a sheriff's deputy traveling eastbound on I-40 noticed a Kia automobile with a California license plate change lanes without proper signaling and speeding 70 MPH in a 60 MPH zone.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop near I-40 and Shields. The deputy made contact with the driver, 39-year-old Vanni Leon Cherry. The deputy said during the stop Cherry began acting very nervous, he had multiple cell phones and that his story as to where and why he was traveling didn't make sense.

A K9 unit was then called in to assist and the dog made a positive hit on the vehicle, indicating the presence of narcotics. During a search of the vehicle, the deputies located one bundle of cocaine in the trunk weighing approximately one and a half pounds.

Cherry was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on one count of trafficking in cocaine base and one count of trafficking illegal drugs. His bond was set at $50,000.
