RedHawks Topple Albuquerque In Series Opener

OKLAHOMA CITY -

Matt Duffy led the Oklahoma City RedHawks with a game-high three hits and scored three runs in a 6-3 win against the Albuquerque Isotopes Sunday in front of a crowd of 4,723 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark

Duffy went 3-for-3, drew a walk and finished the night a home run shy of the cycle as the RedHawks (71-66) opened a four-game series against the Isotopes.

The RedHawks entered the game trailing Omaha by two games for the American Northern Division lead. Omaha was scheduled to play at Reno Sunday night.

Preston Tucker and Carlos Perez each drove in two runs for Oklahoma City and the RedHawks pitching staff combined to strike out 13 Isotopes batters.

Duffy led off the bottom of the second inning with a double, then scored on a RBI single to right field by Domingo Santana for a 1-0 RedHawks lead. A two-run double by Perez on a line drive to center field later in the inning extended the RedHawks a 3-0 lead.

L.J. Hoes hit a solo homer to left field to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning and give Oklahoma City a 4-0 advantage.

The Isotopes (59-76) scored all three of their runs in the top of the fifth inning.

A two-run triple by Trayvon Robinson on a line drive to right field brought home the first two runs of the night for Albuquerque. Joc Pederson followed with a RBI single to cut the RedHawks' lead to 4-3, but that was as close as Albuquerque got on the scoreboard.

Tucker drove in a run in the bottom of the inning with a single to right field for a 5-3 RedHawks lead.

Trayvon Robinson doubled with one out in the top of the seventh inning before Pederson and Tim Federowicz drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. RedHawks pitcher Patrick Urckfitz got Clint Robinson to strike out.

Pitcher Jason Stoffel then entered the game with two outs to face Jamie Romak, who grounded into a force out at third base to get the RedHawks out of the jam and preserve the two-run lead.

Duffy tripled with one out in the seventh inning, then scored on a sacrifice fly by Tucker for a 6-3 RedHawks advantage.

Tucker now has 28 RBI this month, the most by a RedHawk in any month this season. He leads the Astros farm system with 92 RBI this season.

Oklahoma City starting pitcher Luis Cruz struck out six batters over 4.2 innings in a no decision. Richard Rodriguez (2-0) recorded the win and Stoffel retired all seven batters he faced, including four strikeouts, to earn his 11th save of the season.

Joe Sclafani was hit by a pitch in the first inning, extending his on-base streak to a league season-high 39 consecutive games. The streak is the longest in the PCL since 2012 when Reno's Jake Elmore reached base in 46 straight games.

The RedHawks continue their final home series of the regular season at 7:05 p.m. Monday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
