WASHITA COUNTY, Oklahoma -

Police arrested an Oklahoma man in Texas for the 2007 death of his ex-girlfriend. Ronnie Denny, Jr. is from Cordell, but has been living in Princeton, Texas.

Detectives have been working on the case of Melissa Flores, 27, for years, but the arrest warrant is based upon a sealed indictment. Authorities would not confirm details, but the families involved are hoping it will bring some closure.

"It's hard for me to say this, but I think she's not with us anymore," said Melissa's father, Victor Flores, in a 2007 press conference.

However, Melissa's family has never stopped looking for her.

"I'm so angry," said Melissa's mother, Judy Flores, in 2007. "Someone has taken away a wonderful woman, who loved her children."

Now, seven years later, there is still no trace of Melissa, but her ex-boyfriend, Ronnie Denny, Jr. has been arrested in connection to her death. He is also the father of her youngest child.

News 9 talked with him shortly after Melissa's disappearance. At that time, he was a person of interest.

"I loved her," Denny said. "She was the mother of my child. I wouldn't do something like that."

Denny's capture was the talk of town on Tuesday.

"It's something that we thought might be coming about," said Sheryl McComas, family friend. "But it's hard to say what happened or who did anything."

McComas knows both Melissa's mother, Judy, as well as Ronnie's mother. She worked with both of them when the 27-year-old disappeared. Melissa's mother is too emotional to talk about Denny's arrest.

"She's doing well, handling it well," McComas said. "I'm sure she looks for closure, always has."

McComas said she feels for both families, and just like them, is waiting on the facts surrounding the case to come to light.

"Ronnie's mom is doing pretty well, too," McComas said. "She's pretty shook up about it."

The indictment will be unsealed once Denny is extradited back to Washita County. That process is expected to begin very soon.
