REPORTS: Fisher Accepts Knicks Job

Posted: Updated:

Bleacher Report senior NBA writer Howard Beck is reporting that Thunder guard Derek Fisher has formally accepted the head coaching job for the New York Knicks.

Initial reports state that Fisher will sign a five-year, $25-million contract with New York.

ESPN had previously reported earlier in the day that New York was "widely expected" to make the move for the now former Oklahoma City guard and it appears the organization has wasted little time in landing their man.

The Knicks amped up their pursuit of the 17-year NBA veteran in recent days after Fisher and Knicks' president – and Fisher's former coach with the Lakers – Phil Jackson spoke about the job opening on the phone late last week.

ESPN also reported that Jackson had been "fully focused" on hiring Fisher since Steve Kerr passed on the coaching vacancy in favor of the open gig for the Golden State Warriors job.

Fisher had indicated for quite some time that this was going to be his final season in the NBA but the Thunder, particularly Kevin Durant, had been actively attempting to sway to return to OKC for one more season.
