Lawmakers on Capitol Hill are pushing for public hearings to further examine the deal that led to Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl's release.

Senate Intelligence committee members and officials from the Department of Defense will meet on Tuesday to try and understand why the Obama Administration let five Taliban fighters go in exchange for Bergdahl.

The Taliban fighters must remain in Qatar for at least a year. Some lawmakers say their release could pose a risk to other US troops abroad.

"This was the right thing to do because we in the United States do not leave our men and women in uniform behind," said former White House Press Secretary, Jay Carney.

The Pentagon determined in 2010 that Bergdahl had walked away from his unit. Greg Leatherman served two tours in Afghanistan and says he remembers when Bergdahl left.

"He dropped all of his sensitive items his night vision, his body armor, all that stuff which he wouldn't do if he were captured," Leatherman said.

Bergdahl could be flown back to the states as early as the end of next week. Here at home, some in the military say they want him to face a court martial, but he has not been charged with anything.
