ENID, Oklahoma -

The Enid Police Department has a new armored vehicle to use during SWAT team activities.

The department announced Thursday morning that it took possession of an Army surplus armored Max-Pro MRAP all-terrain vehicle Monday. Lt. Gary Fuxa and Sgt. Justin Hodges traveled to Fort Carson, Colorado to pick up the vehicle, which the department will use for SWAT team activities, emergency responses and for static display at public events.

The vehicle was made available to the department through the Department of Defense Law Enforcement Support Office surplus program.

"The vehicle is a 2009 to 2010 and has 31,000 miles, valued at $689,000. The vehicle can hold eight to 10 officers," Lt. Fuxa said.

The department will pay a $2,500 transfer fee for the vehicle, likely coming from seized drug funds.

"This will probably be paid for by seized drug funds considering it will be used in a lot of high-risk drug warrants," Chief Brian O'Rourke said.

Fuxa said the vehicle would complement the department's tactics.

"It's a huge plus for our department and the community," Fuxa said.
