EDMOND, Oklahoma -

A large Edmond home was destroyed in a fire Wednesday. No people were injured.

Four area fire departments battled the flames near the intersection of Kelly and Waterloo. No fire hydrants in the immediate area forced crews to use a water tanker to get the fire under control around 3 p.m. The call to first responders came in shortly before 1 p.m., according to fire department officials. Flames and dark smoke could be seen for miles in north Edmond.

"[The homeowner is] emotional, she's scared," family friend Cassi Rush said. "Not everybody knows. Not all the family knows."

Firefighters were able to enter the home but quickly learned they couldn't stay long.

"The roof was starting to sag," Oak Cliff Fire Chief Ken Stoops said. "The decision was made by command to pull [firefighters] out for the firefighters' safety."

Two dogs were found and are doing OK. The family is hoping their cat escaped. Stoops says the Red Cross has been called to offer assistance to the family with three boys.

The fire is was under investigation as of late Wednesday. Officials believe the blaze started in or near the attic.
