Buchanan, Redhawks Outduel Sky Sox

Jake Buchanan pitched 7.2 scoreless innings and Domingo Santana homered in a 1-0 Oklahoma City RedHawks win against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Tuesday afternoon in front of a season-high crowd of 10,383 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The win earned the RedHawks (22-18) a split in the series against the Sky Sox (18-20) as they concluded an eight-game homestand in Bricktown with a game that lasted 1 hour, 59 minutes.

Buchanan (3-3) held Colorado Springs to two hits in the second inning, then retired the next 14 Sky Sox batters. He combined with relievers Jason Stoffel and Josh Fields for the third shutout win of the season for Oklahoma City.

Buchanan walked two and struck out four in the win, throwing 85 pitches, including 54 for strikes. He has now not allowed a run in his last 16.2 innings pitched.

Sky Sox pitcher Christian Bergman (3-2) retired the first 10 RedHawks batters he faced before outfielder Adron Chambers singled on a line drive to right field in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Santana belted an opposite field home run into the visitor's bullpen for a 1-0 RedHawks lead in the sixth inning. The homer was his second in as many games for the outfielder, and his fifth of the season.

Fields struck out the side in the top of the ninth inning for his first save of the season with the RedHawks.

Bergman held Oklahoma City to three hits, walked two and struck out five in the loss.

Tuesday's game marked the shortest nine-inning game for the RedHawks since a 5-1 loss at Iowa Aug. 20, 2006 that lasted 1 hour, 54 minutes. The game was the shortest nine-inning contest in Bricktown since a 2-0 RedHawks win Aug. 3, 2006 against Las Vegas that lasted 1 hour, 52 minutes.
