Sky Sox Hold Off RedHawks

OKLAHOMA CITY -

An RBI double by Kyle Parker in the eighth inning ended up as the game winner as the Colorado Springs Sky Sox won 3-2 against the Oklahoma City RedHawks Sunday afternoon in front of a crowd of 4,599 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Colorado Springs took a 2-0 lead in the series and won a fourth consecutive game against the RedHawks this season.

Oklahoma City took the first lead of the game and went on to outhit the Sky Sox, 7-5.

Robbie Grossman led off the game for the RedHawks with a home run that landed in the Oklahoma City bullpen in left field for a 1-0 RedHawks lead in the first inning.

The Sky Sox tied the game in the third inning when Jason Pridie singled to score Dustin Garneau.

Colorado Springs pitcher Tyler Matzek went on to retire 12 straight Oklahoma City batters before Carlos Perez singled on a line drive to left field in the fifth inning.

Jason Pridie led off the sixth inning with a double for Colorado Springs, and scored on a single by Ryan Wheeler to give the Sky Sox a 2-1 edge.

Domingo Santana came in to pinch hit for the RedHawks in the seventh inning and connected on a single to load the bases with one out for the RedHawks. Grossman then flied into a double play with Gregorio Petit being tagged out on the throw to home to preserve the Colorado Springs lead.

The Sky Sox added a run in the eighth inning on Parker's RBI double to take a 3-1 lead. RedHawks right fielder Austin Wates was running to field the ball, then appeared to lose sight of it in the sun and get hit in the face with the ball. He left the field under his own power and did not return to the game.

Adron Chambers, in his first game back from the disabled list, drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning. Jon Singleton later doubled on a fly ball to right field to score Chambers and cut the Colorado Springs lead to 3-2.

Matzek (2-2) held the RedHawks to one run on six hits, walked three and struck out four in the win over 7.0 innings.

RedHawks starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz (3-2) went 6.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He walked three and struck out five in the loss.

The RedHawks continue their four-game series against the Sky Sox, at 7:05 p.m. Monday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
