TULSA, Oklahoma -

A woman was shot dead by a police officer after a double armed robbery led to a standoff in East Tulsa on Friday night, officials said.

The first armed robbery took place at a Dollar General Store in the 3900 block of South Garnett Road about 11 p.m. Employees told police they were walking to their car when a man approached them with a pistol and ordered them to the back of the store. They turned off the alarm and opened the safe for him.

He took thousands of dollars and some cigarettes and left without harming anyone, police said.

About two hours later a mile north, officers and deputies responded to another armed robbery call at Marez Mexican Restaurant and saw two men running from the building to a waiting car with a woman inside.

A standoff ensued and officers said the driver of the car accelerated in an attempt to ram police. TPD said that's when they opened fire on the car and three people inside.

The young woman was killed, a 17-year-old male was shot and wounded, and Adrian Ayub, 19, was unharmed and arrested.

Two employees at the restaurant suffered minor injuries from pistol whippings.

"From my understanding here, individuals here were taking out the trash and were confronted by these individuals," TPD Officer Leland Ashley said. "It appears that these individuals were driving around targeting different businesses tonight."

TPD verified that one of the males is the same person who robbed the Dollar General, but they were unsure which one. They said a piece of evidence at the restaurant linked him to the earlier crime.

Police have not released the identity of the woman in the car who died.
