OSU Football Picks Up Michigan Transfer

STILLWATER, Oklahoma -

After losing three safeties to graduation and one to dismissal, it appears some backside defensive help has arrived for the Cowboys.

Former Michigan strong safety Josh Furman confirmed on Twitter that he is officially headed to Stillwater to play for Oklahoma State.

The 6-foot-2, 202-pound defensive back started three games for the Wolverines last season, who went 7-6 and lost five of their final six contests. Furman will have one year of eligibility for the Cowboys and will be able to play immediately, having already graduated from Michigan.

He would have been a fifth-year senior for the Wolverines after redshirting his freshman season in 2010.

Furman is an Annapolis, Md., native and he appeared in 32 games in his time in Ann Arbor, totaling 29 tackles. With three starts for Michigan last season, he is already the most experienced safety on the Cowboys' roster.

The Cowboys lost key contributors and all of the unit's career starts with seniors Daytawion Lowe, Shamiel Gary and Zack Craig graduating after the season and projected 2014 starter Lyndell Johnson leaving the team before spring practice.

Veteran Larry Stephens returns for OSU, as well, after returning from a season-ending injury against Mississippi State in last year's opener. Stephens will also be a fifth-year senior.

Furman will join Stephens and sophomores Deric Robertson and Jordan Sterns as the likely safety rotation.
