ROGER MILLS COUNTY, Oklahoma -

A pickup truck pulling a trailer caught on fire after colliding with a semi-truck Tuesday afternoon on US 283 near Cheyenne, Oklahoma. Two people in the pickup were killed at the scene.

Emergency crews responded to the wreck at 12:20 p.m. on US 283, about 13 miles south of Cheyenne in Roger Mills County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a pickup pulling a camper trailer was southbound on US 283, when it went across the center line to pass a tractor-trailer. However, troopers say the pickup driver then noticed an oncoming semi-truck, which was northbound on US 283 at the time.

The pickup driver swerved back into the southbound lane, causing the trailer of the pickup to whip back and forth. The pickup crossed the center line again, hitting the oncoming semi head-on.

Troopers say the pickup was pushed into a ditch. Both the semi and the pickup then caught on fire.

The semi driver escaped in time and was not injured. However, the driver and passenger of the pickup were still inside the vehicle when it caught on fire. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not identified the two killed in the collision. The cause of the crash is listed as "left of center in marked zone."
