Parents Claim Moore Softball Coach Disappeared With Team Money

A local girls softball coach is still AWOL, and parents of his former players said he stole thousands of dollars.

Members of the Oklahoma Destiny All-Stars 14 and under traveling team practiced Monday behind Highland West Junior High in Moore. Also on hand was an investigator with ODOT.

Players and their parents said their coach, 41-year-old Lamont Martin, disappeared with as much as $5,000 dollars last month. They said that money was supposed to pay for equipment, uniforms and tournament fees.

Martin has a prison record dating back to 1999, for various financial misdeeds. Despite that, ODOT hired him six years ago.

ODOT said Martin has been suspended "with pay" for 20 days, while an investigation is conducted. Martin's mother retired from ODOT last year.

His former players said they feel betrayed.

"I would prefer an explanation, but I am just fed up with it," Destiny All-Star Player Shaunna Lierman said.

Oklahoma City police are investigating the allegations against Martin, but he has not been formally charged. Players and parents said what Martin did has caused a major hardship, because now their fundraising efforts start from scratch.
