My 2 Cents: Plan To Finish The American Indian Cultural Museum

It seems fitting that some state senators now want to use money from the state's unclaimed property fund, to pay for the state's half-finished American Indian Cultural Center. It too is property few have wanted to claim.

It seems fitting that some state senators now want to use money from the state's unclaimed property fund, to pay for the state's half-finished American Indian Cultural Center. It too is property few have wanted to claim.

So the latest idea in the legislature is to use $40 million that's just sitting in a vault.

Jane from Luther can't believe it, she writes: "No one I know feels that these funds from property account should be used for this mistake."

I hate to break this to you Jane, but I think they should use it. It is frankly, foolish and wasteful not to complete this project we've already sunk so much money into.

It's kind of like buying $67 million worth of stock and then forgetting about it, leaving it in a vault doing nothing until it eventually loses all of its value.

From the beginning seven years ago, this has been a state project, not a tribal project, and I'm convinced the state, and especially Oklahoma City, will benefit greatly by having a world-class American Indian museum on the banks of the Oklahoma River.

Using unclaimed property to fulfill an unfinished vision makes sense to me.
