OKLAHOMA CITY -

A metro construction company is accused of using its religious affiliation to scam victims. One woman says "Blessed and Favored Construction" took off with $10,000.

James Braggs Jr., 53, is being called a Christian con artist. The granddaughter of 82-year-old Joyce Taylor says she's not giving up until Braggs gets what he deserves.

"She trusted him," said Tezlyn Figaro. "He never put one days' worth of work in with the roof."

"I'm thinking he's going to, you know, do what he's supposed to do," said Taylor.

Taylor says she wrote Braggs a check for $10,000 on May 30, 2013. It was a down payment on the nearly $29,000 roofing job, a price believed to be inflated by Braggs.

"So I haven't seen him since," said Taylor.

Court documents show the construction company has two names, Braggs & Braggs Construction, and Blessed and Favored Construction. But, neither name is listed on the state's Construction Industries Board website, which is a requirement. The business address is listed on Britton Rd. in NE OKC.

"No he's not here," said James Braggs Sr.

There, we found a fragrance shop and an upholstery store. Inside, was James Braggs Jr.'s father, James Braggs Sr.

"Do you know about him taking thousands of dollars from people and not doing the work?" asked News 9 reporter, Evan Anderson.

"Not as I know of. I don't know anything about that," said Braggs Sr.

Braggs Jr. is no stranger to legal troubles. He's been taken to court by at least two other victims. Both Braggs Jr., and according to his father, his soon to be ex-wife are allegedly affiliated with the Christian ministry.

"I called myself, tried to find his business location which was non-existent, went by his home," said Figaro.

But with no luck, Tezlyn hired a private investigator to serve him papers to appear in court Monday, but Braggs Jr. never showed up.

"I'm really disappointed in him," said Taylor. "I hate this really happened."

Figaro now says she'll ask the state to pursue a criminal investigation. After several attempts, News 9 has yet to hear back from Braggs Jr.
