Firefighters had their hands full overnight after a fast-moving grass fire in Jones caught an abandoned home on fire.

Firefighters scrambled to make sure it didn't spread further but the conditions certainly didn't make it easy.

In the end, four to five acres of land went up in flames when this grass fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. Monday.

It started as a grass fire and even jumped a road and spread to an empty structure. Once the larger flames were knocked down, crews stayed in place to put down the hot spots and make sure embers were out as well.

Fire fighters in Jones say winds coming from the south and the dry conditions posed the biggest threat. No injuries were reported.

A Red Flag fire warning remains in effect. More than 40 of the state's 77 counties are under the warning and burn bans are in effect in Canadian, Cotton, Pittsburg and Stephens counties.
