Dry, Windy Weather Could Spark Oklahoma Wildfires

Posted: Updated:

There's a warm and windy weekend ahead for Oklahoma. The wildfire risk will be extremely high both Saturday and Sunday with the worse conditions expected Sunday afternoon.

Saturday highs will climb into the mid-60s with strong northwest winds behind another cold front. Winds will pick up 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 30 at times. This combined with extremely low relative humidity will again make for a very dangerous situation when it comes to grass fires.

Sunday will be a warmer day, and unfortunately even windier. Highs on Sunday will climb into the upper 60s and lower 70s. Winds will turn around out of the southwest and crank up 15 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph.

The strongest winds will again be in western Oklahoma. The relative humidity on Sunday will drop into 10% to 25% range. This will create one of the worst situations for grass fires we have seen this year.

Please be very careful, because even the smallest spark can cause bad problems and spark grass fires that will be very difficult to contain.
