KONAWA, Oklahoma -

A Konawa woman armed with a gun tries to kill her grandfather at a high school basketball tournament.

The gym was packed and the gun loaded, but some alert staff didn't let that stop them from getting in the way.

Police say this could have been much worse, but a school custodian, and the principal stepped in just before shots were fired inside the school.

Police got the call just before 7 p.m. Saturday. A woman with unclear ties to Konawa public schools was inside the gym, armed with a .22 caliber hand gun.

"First information that we got was that something had happened at the school and we needed to get there right away," said Konawa Assistant Chief, Jason Teel.

It wasn't until Teel was half way to the school when he was told a shot was fired outside the gym.

"She had threatened the grandpa and other family members several times about assaulting them, killing, and I believe she went to the school to make good on those threats," said Teel.

Before police arrived, Summer Shaw was being held down by four men. Police say one of Shaw's family members pushed Shaw out the packed gym before the shot was fired.

"She fought from the moment we got there until she was leaving in the back of the patrol car," said Teel.

According to Konawa police, Shaw's grandfather has custody of her two young children.

Investigators also believe she's battling a drug addiction and was under the influence. They found 11 ½ grams of meth in her pocket.

Squad car video shows an irate, and out of control Shaw banging her head against the protective shield. She was so combative, jail officials had to use a restraint chair.

"Had several other officers there and jailers to be able to get her out of the car, and place her in the restraint chair," said Teel.

Shaw is facing a number of charges including attempted first degree murder. She remains in the Seminole county jail with a bond set at $500,000.
