OKLAHOMA CITY -

A judge has reduced a life sentence to 40 years for a man convicted in the murder of a homeless Edmond man known as "Bicycle Bob."

Connor Mason was 19 years old in 2009 when he and two others repeatedly stabbed 54-year-old Dwite Morgan, also known as "Bicycle Bob." On Thursday, Mason's attorneys asked a judge to reduce his life-in-prison sentence, saying Mason needs to be punished for what he did, but he also needs a chance to give back.

Mason's mother, Lisa Adams, says her son can do some good if he's not behind bars.

"Connor knows that all of this is part of his plan for his life, and he knows that he's got a chance to change," Adams said.

Mason must serve at least 35 years of his 40 years sentence before he's eligible for parole.
