A Norman man is in the Cleveland County Detention Center, accused of abusing and killing a 5-month-old baby boy.

It reportedly happened while he was home alone with the child and got frustrated when the infant wouldn't stop crying during the Bedlam football game.

Those details are laid out in an arrest warrant. And though this child died December 7, it wasn't until almost a week later that someone was finally arrested for the child's murder.

Tre'viance Walker, 22, is accused of first degree murder in the baby boy's death. Norman police tracked him down in Lawton over the weekend, and had him booked into the Comanche County jail.

"Detectives that were investigating this had some indication that he may be getting ready to skip," said Captain Tom Easley with the Norman Police Department.

Court records state Walker was left alone with the child at a home on Willoway Drive in west Norman for about an hour on December 7.

Several hours later, the baby was rushed to Norman regional hospital when he was discovered to be unresponsive in his playpen. He was pronounced dead when he got to the Emergency room.

"I was just devastated for the family," said Jimmy Shannon, who lives right next door. He says he knows Walker's aunt and uncle, and was horrified to hear about the baby's passing.

Court records show at first Walker "denied ever touching the little boy," who is not his son, but the son of his current girlfriend.

They state later, he admitted it was during the second half of the OU, OSU bedlam game that the baby started crying, and that he picked up the baby with "enough force to cause his neck to snap back."

Walker stated that he "held the baby tightly against his chest gripping the back of the baby's head with his hand" before he "dropped" the baby back into his playpen.

The Norman police department says the evidence backs that up.

"The autopsy confirmed the nature and extent of the injuries, including a subdural hematoma to the brain," said Captain Easley. "The child had bruising on the face, particularly the left cheek and head. And injuries are consistent with shaking or dropping of a child."

Shannon, for one, is infuriated.

"I will never understand how any one person could ever hurt a child ever," said Shannon. "But an innocent baby? That's just brutal."

Walker was transferred from the Comanche County jail to the Cleveland County jail Monday afternoon, where he is currently being held without bond.

Formal charges are yet to be filed.

Vapour Kingdom in Norman is accepting donations for the family to help with funeral arrangements for the baby.
