Authorities are urging drivers in central and eastern Oklahoma to drive slowly and take a little extra time Monday morning as thick fog blankets parts of the state.

The fog rolled in Sunday night and is expected to hang around through at least 10 a.m. Monday. The fog has been blamed for several accidents, including one in northeast Oklahoma City Sunday night. At least five cars were involved in three separate chain-reaction crashes on Interstate 40 at Choctaw Road. At least four people were injured.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers say because of the fog they must drive cautiously, which means it's taking them longer to respond to crashes.

There are also reports the heavy fog is affecting flights at Will Rogers World Airport. Several Southwest flights scheduled to land Monday morning in Oklahoma City have been delayed or canceled.

Authorities say when driving in thick fog, drivers should use their low-beam headlights, keep plenty of distance between other drivers, slow down, and leave early in order to reach their destination on time.
