In October of 2011, Gayla Cantrell's father passed away.
To remember him she kept his urn on a china hutch in her home. Now, his urn is in a place she never would have imagined.
"I feel real helpless. There ain't nothing I can do, seems like I can't catch a break," said OKC resident Gayla Cantrell.
Unemployed and soon to be evicted from her home Gayla Cantrell doesn't know what to do next.
"Right now we're just really biding our time until they tell us to get out," said Gayla.
Fearing she would be forced to leave her home at a moment's notice, Gayla put all of her items in storage, including one item that can never be replaced, an urn containing the ashes of her father.
"I packed everything up and put it over there to keep it safe in case they came and locked us out," said Gayla
Storage was the safest place, until Gayla fell behind three months' rent and now owes Public Storage over $350.
"I'm terrified," said Gayla.
Terrified because now Gayla's storage unit is up for auction, on Wednesday.
"I called them up the other day. I asked if I can at least get the urn out and they said they can't do that. They could at least plead with whoever buys the unit."
One final plea, to be reconnected with her father.
"I can't blame no one else but me. The one I need the most is locked up in there... It bothers me."
News 9 asked Public Storage about its policy for situations like this and they declined to comment on the record.
However, we did speak with other storage units about auctions. They said often times the buyer will leave behind personal items, but there is still no guarantee.
