OKLAHOMA CITY -

An Oklahoma County jury has convicted former State Representative Randy Terrill of bribery and recommended prison time.

The jury deliberated for four hours before reaching the guilty verdict. Jurors recommended one year in prison and a $5,000 fine for Terrill.

Terrill took the stand to defend himself and had no visible reaction to the guilty verdict.

As bailiffs handcuffed him and took him to the county jail, Terrill referred us to his lawyer for comment, who simply said his client was disappointed.

The former lawmaker from Moore was convicted of offering former state Senator Debbe Leftwich an $80,000-a-year job state job in exchange for not running for re-election in 2010.

Terrill testified he did nothing to discourage Leftwich from running for re-election, but the jury believed he did.

"All we can say is that we wanted the opportunity to present our evidence in this case, we did that and we are obviously pleased with the jury's verdict," said Assistant District Attorney Gayland Gieger.

Wednesday, Terrill has a hearing where he plans to request to bond out of jail until his sentencing date on December 5, 2013.

The bribery trial for former Senator Leftwich is scheduled for December 9, 2013.
