A newborn and her mother are both happy and healthy after some tense moments along I-40, just west of Oklahoma City.

The baby was born on the shoulder of the Interstate as emergency crews rushed to the scene Monday. The mom, Jessica Plummer, and her husband were less than five miles from the hospital when the baby decided she could not wait any longer. Little Jennavive met her parents for the first time not far from mile marker 131.

Plummer woke up to her water breaking just before 4 a.m. Monday. She and her husband then started an hour-long trip from Watonga to INTEGRIS Canadian Valley. They almost made it.

"I was so hoping that we would [make it]," Plummer said. "We were so close. I was trying to relax and not push."

Plummer says she was nervous during the delivery because there was concern the pregnancy may have been more complicated than usual.

"I had to have a second ultrasound with her to make sure that she was not breech, so my first thought was … what if feet come out first," wondered Plummer.

The couple didn't have to deal with that. Dad was able to get the job done with a healthy, natural birth. Mom and child were taken by ambulance to INTEGRIS Baptist where great grandma and great grandpa kept the two company while dad worked Tuesday. Jennavive spent most of Tuesday resting, although she did open her eyes just a bit to see News 9's camera.

Jennavive is Plummer's fourth child. The two were released from the hospital Tuesday afternoon.
