An Oklahoma City man is in jail, accused of viciously killing a little puppy. A neighbor witnessed the horrible attack and even tried to intervene.

That neighbor said she found the puppy gasping for breathe right in the middle of a bush.

"When I picked the puppy up, he was still alive," said Nicole Herrin, who called 911 immediately. " It was gasping for air."

Herrin said she was hoping she would be able to save the little puppy. Sadly, she said he died in her arms while waiting for police to arrive near N.W. 8th and Ellison.

"That hurt more than anything," Herrin said.

Herrin said she saw 34-year-old Tyrone Darrell Webb not only throw the dog against this concrete wall, but stomp on it, and kick it too. Webb lives in the brick house on the corner.

No one was home when we knocked on the door. But Herrin said she's seen Webb wandering the neighborhood before. But she's never seen him have an outburst like this.

"It was overwhelming," Herrin recalled.

Neighbors in the area said this isn't the first time Webb has been seen abusing a dog. In fact, one man says he witnessed an attack just the day before.

"He was kicking it and stuff and he grabbed it and he slung it," said Chris Shields, who said he was outside on his porch when the incident happened.

Shields said the puppy was launched right over the stop sign, and landed on the ground with a yelp.

Shields said he was horrified and called 911 immediately.

"I'm an animal lover," said Shields. "And when I see something like that, it breaks your heart."

But Shields said no one from animal control came out that day.

According to the police report, when officers responded here on Friday, Webb was wearing an MMA-style belt, which he stated he had won by "defeating dogzilla."

Police promptly arrested him, and took custody of the dead dog.

Herrin said she just wishes she could have done more.

"I just felt like I had to step in," she said.

Webb is being held in the Oklahoma County jail on $2,000 bond.

We checked Webb's criminal record, and he has been in jail before for a domestic dispute.

According to court papers, Webb suffers from bi-polar disorder and schizophrenia.
