A man trying to rob an Oklahoma City 7-Eleven store threw a soup can through a front window and began destroying merchandise and displays, police say.
Just before 2 p.m. on September 16, police were called to N.W. 122nd Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Employees say 20-year-old Desmorian Driver ran into the store and demanded all the money from the safe.
When workers told Driver they couldn't open the safe because it had a time lock, he became angry. Witnesses say he threw a soup can through the store's front window, shattering it. He then began tearing merchandise from the shelves and knocking over display cases.
He also told employees he had a knife and would hurt them, but he never showed a weapon.
Employees called police, who arrived within minutes and took Driver into custody. When they searched him, they found a knife in his pocket.
When police asked Driver why he tore up the store, he replied he was trying to rob it.
Driver was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County jail for first-degree robbery, malicious destruction of property, and destruction of private property.
It's estimated he caused more than $1,000 damage to the store.
