OKLAHOMA CITY -

An Oklahoma City family is in mourning, after a mother is gunned down in front of her two young children. And court records show her accused killer pled guilty to assaulting a pregnant woman two years ago.

Oklahoma City police arrested 23-year-old Kenneth Kimbrough. He stands accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend, 28-year-old Quanisha Dupree, just before midnight at a home at 1120 N. Anita Ave. in northwest Oklahoma City.

Her family is still reeling from the news. They say they had never even met the man Dupree was dating, and who now stands accused of killing her. And news that he has a criminal past has them even more upset.

"Oh my daughter was a beautiful person," said Lavetta Dupree, Quanisha's mother. "She had a brilliant personality, everybody loved my daughter."

Dupree still can't believe her daughter is gone.

"She was the type of person that get along with everybody. And she would try to help anybody who needed help."

Dupree is even more upset that the man accused of killing her, Kimbrough, had been given a five-year deferred sentence, after pleading guilty to hurting a pregnant woman back in 2011.

"She probably asked about his past, he probably lied to her," said Dupree. "But if she actually knew the real deal, I don't think she would have gone as far as she did."

Instead, the family says Quanisha had recently moved in with Kimbrough, along with her two children, after only dating him for a couple of months.

They say he shot her Friday night, right in front of her 7-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son.

It's something the children will never be able to forget.

"My heart fell when I found out that she was gone," said Dupree. "My heart fell to the floor."

It turns out there was a bench warrant issued for Kimbrough just five days before the murder, for failing to appear in court to pay one of his fees.

Lavetta Dupree just wishes police could have arrested him before he shot and killed her daughter.

"If they would have really got down to business on that case, my daughter would still be here today."

The family has put together a memorial fund for Quanisha Dupree at Temple and Sons Funeral home, since they can't afford to pay for the burial. All donations can be made directly to the funeral home.

Kimbrough is being held without bond at the Oklahoma County Jail, accused of first-degree murder.
