OKLAHOMA CITY -

An Oklahoma City family lost five puppies in a home fire early Wednesday morning.

The couple woke up to the fire around 2:30 a.m. in the 800 block of S.E. 70th Street.

They made it out of the burning home safely, but several small dogs did not.

Inside the home at the time were a total of nine puppies. Four were saved but the other five died.

Firefighters say 75 percent of the home was damaged by smoke, water and fire.

Investigators tell News 9 the fire is likely accidental and may have started somewhere in the laundry room area.
