A Davis man who crashed his vehicle near Springer, Oklahoma, Friday morning has died at the hospital.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, it happened just after 8:30 a.m. Friday in the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 at mile marker 39, about one mile south of Springer in Carter County.

A 2009 Chevrolet Impala driven by 50-year-old Geary Stevens was southbound on I-35, when it ran off the roadway to the left for an unknown reason. The car then overcorrected and went into a broad slide, and crossed the roadway to the right.

The car rolled two times, coming to rest on its wheels. Stevens was thrown out of the vehicle during the collision. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Geary was transported by Eagle-Med to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, in critical condition, suffering from head, trunk internal and external, arm and leg injuries. He died Saturday morning.

Troopers listed the cause of the collision as "unsafe speed-exceeding speed limit" in the collision report.
