OKLAHOMA CITY -

Oklahoma City police recruits took the "Polar Plunge" Friday morning to help raise money for Special Olympics Oklahoma.

Recruit Class 130 and three staff members participated in the "Polar Plunge" at White Water Bay in Oklahoma City. The 52-person class raised over $6,800 in a week.

Officials say students at Capitol Hill High School donated more than $830, which was the largest contribution to the fundraiser.

Both private citizens and businesses donated to the cause.

According to the police department, the recruit class raised over $11,000 by participating in the polar plunges. Recruit Class 130 was the highest fundraising team at this year's Polar Plunge in Oklahoma City.

Officers from OU Health Science Police Department, OU Police Department, Mustang and Piedmont police departments, as well as Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers, Oklahoma County Sheriff's deputies, and Oklahoma City police participated in this year's plunge.
