PUTNAM CITY, Oklahoma -

They may be small, but a group of Pre-K students at a Putnam City elementary school is making a big contribution to stop hunger in Oklahoma.

Twenty Pre-K students from Northridge Elementary School raised 300 pounds of food and $503 for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.

According to their teacher, these students personally created and worded more than 60 handout notes and signs that decorated the school and went home to parent. Those parents then took the bags to their own places of employment to collect food.

The students also went to neighbors, other classrooms, and throughout our building letting others know that we were collecting cans for kids that didn't have enough to eat. The school's PTA even got on board after noticing the notes around the school and to teachers in the building and soon got the principal involved. The principal got permission for a note to be sent out in Thursday folders to all families. When all was said and done, these 20 students were able to gather over 250 cans of food, far surpassing their goal of 100 cans.
