The President's plan to curb gun violence includes several measures to increase the treatment of mental illness, which I think is the real root of the problem; not guns.
Eric from Edmond doesn't buy it: "How frequent do the massacres have to become before we can talk about serious gun control? 'Fixing' the mental health system, while needed, is nothing more than a diversionary smokescreen."
But Donna says: "Finally, someone addressing the issue, mental illness. Parents feel helpless when it comes to their children and mental illness".
Michael from Edmond says: "The President of the United States cares more about the gun in his hand than he does my son and many the many others suffering with autism."
Wendy from Choctaw: "As a past ER nurse and school nurse, I was so glad to hear your support for increased mental health assessment, care and treatment for young people. This has been taboo for too long."
Michelle, who has a mentally ill child, says: "Our children need more education about it so they can learn to understand and deal with it as they grow teen through adulthood."
Finally, Jamie a retired teacher from Arcadia, writes: "We have students in kindergarten that are in desperate need of mental health intervention then, not 5-10 years down the road."
