OSU's Meachem Headed To Houston

Posted: Updated:
HOUSTON, Texas -

Doug Meachem has been a member of the Oklahoma State football coaching staff since Mike Gundy took the reins of the program in 2005, but it was announced on Saturday that Meachem is leaving the Cowboys to become the new offensive coordinator at Houston.

The Houston Chronicle first reported that Meachem, who coached tight ends and inside receivers at OSU, had accepted the offer from the Cougars. The official announcement is expected on Monday.

Houston fired its offensive coordinator after the first game of the 2012 season when the Cougars lost 30-13 to Texas State. Houston went 5-7 this season and ranked 38th in scoring offense after leading the nation in scoring in 2011. UH quarterbacks coach Travis Bush will serve as co-offensive coordinator and assistant head coach.

Meachem, who played offense line at OSU, was the offensive coordinator at Samford before joining Gundy in Stillwater in 2005.

With the offensive coordinator void left by Todd Monken, OSU now has two key coaching openings to fill in the offseason.
