LANGSTON, Oklahoma -

Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting that happened in Logan County.

At approximately 6:30 Friday, the Langston Police Department received an emergency call regarding a shooting that took place in the 400 block of South Oklahoma Street.

When officers arrived, they found Michael DeWayne Milton, 50, dead of an apparent gunshot wound. The Langston Police Department contacted OSBI for assistance in the homicide investigation, the OSBI said in a Sunday news release.

It appears Milton was stealing a vehicle from a man's front yard and the homeowner tried to stopped him by reaching through the car's window to take the key from the ignition, OSBI said.

According to investigators, Milton continued driving the car from the home in a reckless manner with the car's owner hanging from a side window.

Another man who lived with the car's owner, fired several rounds from a handgun at the car. Milton was struck with an unknown number of bullets and wrecked the vehicle approximately a block from the original crime scene, the release said.

Milton died at the scene. The car's owner was not injured.

No one was arrested for the homicide, the OSBI said. The District Attorney will determine whether the shooting was justified.
