OTTAWA COUNTY, Oklahoma -
Four people died of massive injuries suffered in a two-vehicle
accident in Ottawa County, located in the northeastern part of Oklahoma, Sunday
afternoon.
The accident occurred on state highway 60, three miles east
of Wyandotte, around 4:20 p.m.
According to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 2003
Ford Mustang driven by 39-year-old George Willis was heading eastbound on US 60
when the vehicle started to veer to the left for an unknown reason. The Mustang
struck a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup, driven by 22-year-old Spencer Anderson, head
on.
The OHP report did not indicate where the vehicles ended up
upon their collision. Both vehicles had passengers and all of the people
involved were pinned for over an hour before being freed.
Willis was pronounced dead at the scene, as were two other
passengers in his car, 14-year-old Drake Cobb and 13-year-old Syrrena Sanderson.
A third passenger in the Mustang, 7-year-old Maryssa
Sanderson, was transported via medical helicopter to Cox South Medical in Springfield,
MO. She is listed in serious condition.
Inside the Ford Ranger, Anderson was flown by medical
helicopter to Freeman Hospital in Joplin, MO. Where he was treated and
released. A passenger in that vehicle, 19-year-old Samantha Delamatter, was
pronounced also dead at the scene.
Troopers say Willis and Cobb in the Mustang were wearing
seatbelts, but both Anderson girls were not wearing their belts. In the Ranger, Anderson was wearing his
seatbelt, Delamatter was not.
OHP Troopers are still investigating the cause of this
accident.
