Movie Diva Review: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2

Posted: Updated:

Do you hear that? That's the sound of millions of Twihards running to theaters to be the first to see the final movie in the popular series. Be smart, my friends, and get out of their way.

The film franchise that made Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner huge stars comes to an end with the fifth and final installment, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2." It's a hotly-anticipated movie that fans have been waiting desperately to see. I wasn't one of them.

No, I am far from a "Twihard" – a very accurate description of fans using a combination of the words "twilight" and "die-hard." I had to be dragged to the other movies, and I wasn't looking forward to this one.

But, I have to admit, I liked this movie. Bella (Stewart) is now a vampire. Her one true vampire love Edward (Pattinson) turned her at the end of the last movie so she could survive the birth of their half human, half vampire child. She's strong, mated for life to Edward, and a new mom, but we're not quite ready for the happy ending yet.

The evil Volturi clan is back, and the Cullens have something – a couple of somethings, actually – that they want.

Here's what I like about this movie: No more sullen, mopey Bella. There's no more agonizing over if she should choose Edward or Jacob, or wondering if she'll get to spend her life with her vampire love. Those questions are answered. And because she's now a card-carrying member of the blood suckers club, Bella has super-human strength and even gets to a kick a little butt.

I haven't read the books, but apparently there's a big change in the movie, and it's actually my favorite scene in the film. Yes, my friends, it's a battle scene. And it's epic. It's a change that may make lovers of the book wary, but I'm sure, in the end, they'll love it.

Nothing I write here is going to prevent this movie from making a gazillion dollars this weekend. But I'm not going to pan the movie. Instead, I'm going to praise it for giving fans just what they want without being disgustingly sappy. Oh, don't get me wrong, there's plenty of sappy, along with a shirtless Jacob (I think that may be a requirement for Twilight movies). It's a fitting end to the popular series, and fans will love it.

I give "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2" 3 out of 5 stars. It's rated PG-13 and runs 1 hour 55 minutes.
