Fatality On I-44 Causes Accident, Northbound Lanes Open Again

Emergency crews say the accident that caused a shutdown of Interstate 44 Friday afternoon started with a man who suffered a heart attack while driving.

As other motorists pulled over to help the man and perform CPR, onlookers caused a secondary accident that ultimately forced a temporary shutdown of the highway. No serious injuries were reported in that accident.

The accident occurred at mile marker 94, near the Newcastle gate.

Traffic is once again moving smoothly in the area.
