About 150 airmen form the 552nd Air Control Wing and the 513th Air Control Group will return to Tinker Air Force Base on Sunday, November 11.
According to Tinker officials, the airmen have been in Southwest Asia for the past six months in support of the on-going operations in Afghanistan.
Officials say both units operate the E-3 "Sentry" Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft and provide all-weather surveillance and communications needed by commanders of U.S. and NATO air defense forces.
The E-3 is used to detect, identify, and track fixed-wing aircraft, maritime surface vessels, and to direct friendly aircraft against the enemy before they release ordnance against friendly forces.
