NORMAN, Oklahoma -

Among the 82,000-plus fans who will be at Saturday's OU-Notre Dame game will be descendants of perhaps the greatest college football coach ever.

Chris and Jon Kochendorfer are great grandsons of legendary Notre Dame coach Knute Rockne. Rockne died in a plane crash in 1931 at just age 43.

The Kochendorfer's say while people have pronounced their great grandfather's first name "Noot" for decades, his real first name is pronounced "Ka-Noot". However, they say their granddad never made a big deal about it.

"Had he not passed away, he would have gone on to do other great things," Chris Kochendorfer said.

Knute Rocke won 105 games and three national titles in 13 years at Notre Dame.
