GUYMON, Oklahoma -

An accident at a food processing plant in Guymon, Oklahoma, claimed the life of a worker Thursday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded to the incident at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Seaboard Foods Plant, located at 2700 N.E. 28th Street in Guymon.

According to the company, a male worker fell onto a shaft, which is a big metal rod that rotates, at the plant's rendering department and died.

The worker's identity has not been released.

Officials with the company say once they learned of the accident, the rendering department immediately shut down and enacted emergency response protocols.

The company says it is cooperating with investigators as they look into what led up to the death. Seaboard also says it is saddened by the tragedy and is providing counseling to employees.
