OKLAHOMA CITY -

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services announced Wednesday it's offered the job of director to Ed Lake, a retired deputy commissioner for the Tennessee Department of Human Services.

The annual salary of the job is $185,000.

Lake worked with Tennessee DHS for 39 years before retiring in February 2011. Lake had his final interview with the Oklahoma Commission for Human Services on Wednesday. He also met with Gov. Mary Fallin and her staff.

Lake's meeting with Gov. Fallin was especially important because of recent recommendations by a bipartisan committee of Oklahoma lawmakers. After the deaths of several children while in DHS custody, the group was created to help reform the agency.

In May, the group announced a list of recommendations, including a proposal to abolish the Commission for Human Services, and allow the governor to appoint the head of DHS. The director would then report directly to the governor.

Oklahomans will vote on those recommendations November 6.

The director position has been vacant since Howard Hendrick retired in April.
