OKLAHOMA CITY -

A consumer watch warning has been issued Friday night concerning a scam targeting Oklahomans.

News 9 has heard from several residents saying they've received a phone call saying your credit card is canceled, when really the caller may just be trying to get your credit card number.

Here's how the scam works. An automated voice says your Mastercard has been canceled for safety reasons. The call asks you to press ‘1' confirm. Once you press ‘1' there may be a prompt to enter your credit card number. Don't do it.  Simply hang up.

Credit card companies would never contact you this way if there truly was a security concern with your account. To be safe, it's always a good idea to regularly check your account for any unauthorized charges.
