More West Nile Virus Cases Confirmed In Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY -

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reported Thursday there have been no additional deaths from West Nile Virus in the state, and just four new cases since Tuesday.

There are now a total of 133 cases of the mosquito-borne disease in Oklahoma, and eight deaths. Those deaths occurred in Oklahoma, Tulsa, Carter and Seminole counties.

Health officials have said this year is on track to be one of the worst West Nile Virus seasons ever in the country. Nationwide, 118 people have died. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the worst West Nile Virus season was in 2002 when 284 people died.

Officials say while the height of the mosquito season is over, they expect to see more cases of the virus well into October.
